WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) has formally invited newly confirmed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem to visit South Texas. In a letter sent to Secretary Noem, De La Cruz congratulated her on her swift confirmation and urged her to visit the border region to hear directly from the families, farmers, and Border Patrol agents who ongoing immigration challenges have impacted.

De La Cruz emphasized the critical situation facing her constituents, citing concerns over drug smuggling, human trafficking, and weak federal enforcement policies over the past four years. In her letter, she expressed optimism that Secretary Noem’s leadership would mark a shift toward stronger border security measures.

Congratulations on your swift confirmation,” De La Cruz wrote. “After four years of open borders and weak federal immigration enforcement, it is encouraging to finally have a Secretary of Homeland Security who is serious about putting the safety and security of Americans first.”

De La Cruz represents Texas’ 15th congressional district, which stretches along the U.S.-Mexico border. She noted that many of her constituents are relieved by Noem’s appointment and hope that her leadership will bring much-needed change.

“These communities have been terrorized over the past four years by a constant flow of drug smuggling and human trafficking,” De La Cruz continued. “With your confirmation, many of my constituents are now sighing relief.”

In her invitation, the congresswoman urged Secretary Noem to visit South Texas to meet with residents and law enforcement officials on the front lines of the border crisis.

“On behalf of the 15th congressional district of Texas, I would like to extend an invitation to South Texas where you can hear from the families, farmers, and Border Patrol agents victimized by President Biden’s open-border policies,”she wrote. “I look forward to working with you to keep South Texas and the nation safe.”

De La Cruz has been an outspoken advocate for stronger border security and has consistently criticized what she describes as the failures of the Biden administration’s immigration policies. Her invitation to Secretary Noem signals a push for immediate and decisive action at the border.

The Biden administration has faced criticism from Republican lawmakers over its handling of border security and immigration enforcement, with many pointing to record levels of migrant crossings and drug-related activity. With Noem now leading DHS, De La Cruz and other lawmakers are eager to see a renewed focus on border enforcement, infrastructure, and policies that prioritize national security.

De La Cruz and her constituents hope such a visit will provide firsthand insight into border communities’ challenges and pave the way for more substantial federal support.
