Dan Gurwitz, an attorney with Atlas Hall and Rodriguez L.L.P. finished one year in 2018 chairing the RGV Partnership. He has contributed ten years to this entity and will continue to do so.  The late Bill Summers was the one who recruited Dan to serve and give back to this community. Bill Summers was a dear friend of Texas Border Business and we consider him to be “the great one” with the partnership.

Dan’s activities with the partnership have been multiple; he served in the Executive Committee, and for a year as Chairman-Elect. He was also part of the strategic planning committee.

Dan told Texas Border Business that the most critical issue they had to deal with was promoting the great opportunities and successes of our four-county region at a time when the rhetoric out of Washington D.C. was not helpful to their message. But he is very proud that the Partnership expanded the participation and effectiveness of its signature events, like the RGV2DC Tour.

He said that his motivation to serve in various non-profits is fulfilling. “The saying “you get what you give” is true. If we want the RGV to achieve its potential, we need to do it on our own, and the Partnership is a great place to help,” he stated.

Being involved and participating in helping the community, takes time. What will he do when he no longer chairs the partnership?

“If this question asks what I will do with the time I used to spend as Chairman, then I don’t think that will be a problem. I will serve this year as Chairman of the RGV Partnership Foundation, will chair the RGV Partnership’s Legislative Tour of the RGV for state legislators. And I am joining the boards of two local non-profits. I also have a full-time law practice!”

He invites anyone who has ideas and energy and wants to participate actively in helping the RGV achieve its potential, to consider joining the Partnership.

What are the rewards?“Personally, it was rewarding to help lead a great group of people and work with a great staff, including the Partnership’s President and Executive Director, Sergio Contreras,” he finalized.
