McALLEN, Texas – Dalinda Gonzalez-Alcantar, longtime educator, tech entrepreneur, STC alumni, and current CEO of The Boys & Girls Club of McAllen announced she will be running for South Texas College Board of Trustees in District 4. Early voting begins April 25th. Election day is May 7th.
“STC has always been the catalyst of economic prosperity in the valley- it certainly was in my own family, in my husband’s, and for the families of my early college high school students that began their college experience at STC,” said Gonzalez-Alcantar.
Gonzalez-Alcantar received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas State University and her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas Pan American (now UTRGV) but credits her post-secondary success to her time at STC. “My parents had three children in college at the same time and STC afforded us an opportunity to attend simultaneously. Everyone has a right to a quality and affordable education and nobody should have to leave home or go broke while receiving one,” Gonzalez-Alcantar stated.
Since 2018 STC has saved families over $280 million dollars through their dual enrollment model. Their CTE program has also led to financial prosperity for many families. “Where STC goes so goes the valley. When companies across the world are looking to relocate or expand their operations they look at the educational attainment of the region and I believe STC is in a unique position to elevate that data point. Families, businesses, and the community as a whole win when STC wins,” said Gonzalez-Alcantar.
When asked why she is a strong candidate to serve as our next STC Board of Trustee in District 4 Dalinda said it’s simple, “my experience securing and stewarding local, state, federal, and private dollars for our community as well as my collaborative approach at solving problems is why I believe I am best suited to serve alongside fellow trustees, Dr Solis, and his incredible faculty and staff. Communities don’t prosper when cities, schools, businesses, and NGOs work in silos. We reduce wasteful taxpayer spending when leaders serve together and I pride myself in being able to bring diverse groups of people together for our community!”
