“Today, I would like to thank all the first responders and others at the local, state and federal level who are bravely and selflessly providing assistance to our fellow citizens and Texans. I wanted to take the time to especially point out the relief work done by the Laredo and Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol sectors. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey—at a time where Texas needed them the most–they rose above their given duties to come to the aid of their fellow citizens providing manpower, assets and support. United States Customs and Border Protection agents and officers from across the country have been assisting with search-and-rescue missions and aiding state and local agencies in Houston and other areas affected by Hurricane Harvey. Yesterday alone, these brave individuals conducted 105 missions in support of the recovery effort, including 54 air missions hoisting over 107 to safety, and conducted dozens of transport operations for blood transfusions. The Webb County Sheriff’s Office also sent personnel to aid the efforts in Houston today.  To both of them, every other first responder and all others working to support our fellow Texans, I thank you for your service.”
