EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents arrested three illegal aliens with previous convictions for sexually related crimes.

Saturday morning, Falfurrias agents arrested a Mexican national attempting to circumvent the checkpoint by traveling on the vast ranchlands of Brooks County. During processing, record checks revealed an active warrant for his arrest issued by the Morgantown North Carolina Police Department. The warrant is for sexual assault, statutory rape of a child. The Brooks County Sheriff’s Office took custody of the subject.

The following morning, Rio Grande City agents working near Roma, Texas, arrested a Mexican national later identified as Leonardo Daniel Vargas-Salinas whose record checks revealed an arrest by the Montgomery Texas Constable’s Office for online solicitation of minor sexual conduct. Vargas-Salinas received two years of confinement for the crime.

A while later, McAllen agents on patrol near Hidalgo, Texas, arrested a Mexican national whose record checks revealed a prior arrest by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities charged the man with the sexual assault of a child. The presiding judge sentenced the man to three years confinement.

Border Patrol is processing the subjects accordingly.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
