EDINBURG – The Texas Healthy Communities Program recognized Hidalgo County’s Health and Human Services department for its efforts to reduce cardiovascular disease, stroke, and other chronic diseases.
At the completion of an assessment from the THCP, Hidalgo County achieved a score of 97.5 points out of a possible 100, earning a recognition level of Gold from the program, said Health and Human Services Chief Administrative Officer Eduardo “Eddie” Olivarez.
“This award is a direct result of collaborative efforts of a workgroup coordinated by Ricardo Salinas,” Olivarez said.
Olivarez said in addition to staff, the success is the result of a countywide team effort.
“We would like to thank Commissioner David Fuentes, Commissioner Eddie Cantu, Commissioner Joe Flores, Commissioner Ellie Torres, County Judge Richard Cortez and his office, Clear Impact, Easter Seals, Make the First Five County, American Heart Association, Hidalgo County ISDs, Hidalgo County municipalities, UTRGV, DSHS, Community Service Agency, WIC, HOPE Family Center, Texas Hunger Initiative, Texas A&M School of Public Health, and Nuestra Clinica Del Valle,” Olivarez said.
