COSTEP Hosts Potential Canadian Manufacturer

COSTEP, Council for South Texas Economic Progress conducted its first “Quick Tour” of 2025, hosting representatives for a foreign manufacturer.

COSTEP advocates regional economic development through site selector quick tours, regional familiarization tours, and regional economic development enrichment sessions and workshops.

COSTEP along with representatives from Texas Southmost College, Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, and industry partners provided insight, information, and knowledge to a group of Canadian investors interested in expanding operations in the Rio South Texas Region.

This was part of a quick tour for “Project Maple,” which will bring several dozen manufacturing jobs to the region and future expansion possibilities.

Adam Gonzalez, COSTEP CEO, and Rick Carrera, COSTEP Director of Economic Development organized the event. Representatives were hosted by the Texas South College International Technology Education and CommerceCenter where they were joined by Richard Mesquias from Texas Southmost College and Eleazar Rodriguez and Salvador Villapando from the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation.

Representatives also had a chance to visit with local industry partners including Humberto Flores, CAS Global, and Guillermo Lash, GL Manufacturas who provided personal insight on operating in the Rio South Texas region.
