WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) sent a letter to President Trump thanking him for his consistent commitment to the pro-life cause and urging him to strongly reject any proposals from congressional Democrats that weaken pro-life policies. He was joined by a number of his pro-life colleagues in the Senate.
“Thank you for your consistent commitment to the pro-life cause,” they wrote. “The pro-life majority in the United States Senate stands with you in protecting the sanctity of every human life.”
“As the Democrat House attempts to weaken existing pro-life policies or forge new ground by eliminating long-standing Hyde protections, we urge you to join us in telling the House and Senate Democrats that bills to weaken or eliminate pro-life policies will be soundly and unequivocally rejected both in the Senate and the White House.”

Dear Mr. President:
Thank you for your consistent commitment to the pro-life cause. The pro-life majority in the United States Senate stands with you in protecting the sanctity of every human life.
In just two years, your Administration has become one of the most pro-life Administrations in our nation’s history. For example, we applaud your fight to ensure the conscience rights of healthcare professionals are protected, prevent taxpayer funding under Title X from going to facilities to perform or refer for abortion, and prevent taxpayer dollars from funding foreign abortion providers overseas through your Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance program.
As you know, Congress has many long-standing pro-life protections in both appropriations provisions and in authorizing legislation. We have a strong pro-life majority in the Senate that has worked to prevent direct taxpayer funding for abortion, protect conscience rights, and stop federal funding for research that destroys human embryos, just to name a few.
These provisions are long-standing and, until recently, were widely bipartisan. As Democrats in the House of Representatives signal their intention to undermine pro-life protections, we want to assure you that these efforts will be rejected by the Republican Senate Majority.
This position of the Republican Senate Majority, coupled with your continued, steadfast, and public support for pro-life policies will send a strong signal that attempts by Democrats to alter decades of established, bipartisan policies will be met with resistance and failure. As the Democrat House attempts to weaken existing pro-life policies or forge new ground by eliminating long-standing Hyde protections, we urge you to join us in telling the House and Senate Democrats that bills to weaken or eliminate pro-life policies will be soundly and unequivocally rejected both in the Senate and the White House.
