WASHINGTON, D.C. — In the wake of the recent attack on a U.S. Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen, Texas, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) has taken action by introducing a House resolution condemning the violent incident and expressing solidarity with law enforcement.
The attack, which occurred on July 7, left three people injured, including McAllen Police Department Officer Ismael Garcia, who sustained a knee injury while responding to the active shooter situation. Congresswoman De La Cruz emphasized the importance of standing behind the law enforcement community in times of crisis.
“My heart is with Border Patrol agents and police officers following the attack on the McAllen Border Patrol annex facility,” said De La Cruz. “This resolution stands as a reminder that violence against law enforcement and first responders will never be tolerated. I am proud to lead this effort in honor of the brave men and women who put themselves in harm’s way and save lives.”
The resolution, introduced with bipartisan support, currently has 41 original co-sponsors. It seeks to formally denounce the violence, recognize the courage of responding officers, and reaffirm the nation’s support for law enforcement agencies tasked with protecting U.S. borders and communities.
As part of her response, Congresswoman De La Cruz visited Officer Ismael Garcia during his recovery. She also shared a message on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:
“It was an honor to visit Officer Ismael Garcia of the McAllen Police Department as he continues his recovery following the recent attack on the McAllen Border Patrol facility. Officer Garcia’s heroic actions and unwavering courage in confronting danger undoubtedly saved many lives. We are profoundly grateful for his selfless service and steadfast dedication to the safety of our South Texas community. I encourage everyone to keep Officer Garcia in your thoughts and prayers as he works toward a full and swift recovery.”
The July 7 attack has prompted increased scrutiny and concern over the safety of Border Patrol agents and local police officers. De La Cruz’s resolution aims to send a strong message of support and zero tolerance for violence against first responders.
The measure is expected to receive a formal vote in the House in the coming weeks.
