Texas Border Business
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and Filemon Vela (TX-34) called on House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to strongly oppose any funding of physical barriers along the southern border in the Fiscal Year 2019 spending bill.
In a letter addressed to Leader Pelosi, Congressmen Gonzalez and Vela asked the Leader to push back against Senate Leadership’s consent to fund physical barriers along the southwest border. The congressmen emphasized that significant harm has already been caused by existing barriers, citing increased flooding and environmental damage to border communities as results of said barriers.
“We had an agreement and we need to stick to it,” Congressman Gonzalez said. “We need to be focused on real border security solutions, not the President’s obsession with a obtaining funding for a physical barrier. No more funding. Plain and simple.”
“Enough is enough,” said Rep. Vela. “The idea of funding more physical barriers along the Southern border should not be on the table for democrats. I am calling on Leader Pelosi to make it clear to her leadership colleagues in the Senate that funding physical barriers is a non-starter.”
