This week, two irrigation districts in Cameron County received WaterSMART grants from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation totaling $600,000. This grant will assist resource managers to improve water conservation efforts and manage water more efficiently. Â
The Cameron County Irrigation District No. 6 and the Harlingen Irrigation District Cameron County No. 1 have been awarded funds to complete projects to protect the Rio Grande Valley from drought and promote water savings.
