WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued the following statement in support of the congressional conference committee seeking long-term funding solutions for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

This morning, President Donald J. Trump reiterated his request for a physical barrier, the same request that caused the longest government shutdown – 35 days – in U.S. history.

“I have faith in the conference committee – Democrat and Republican – as they begin working to find a practical approach to border security. These lawmakers were chosen for their legislative prowess and acumen on smart border security solutions. In the past weeks, I have spoken with almost every individual involved in today’s conference, including Congressman Henry Cuellar, a fellow Texas border representative. We are unified in our desire to enact modern, technologically-advanced solutions. I have confidence in these individuals, I have confidence in modern solutions to securing our borders, and I remain confident that a border wall is still unwarranted.”
