WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today issued the following statement in response to U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman’s ruling against the Administration’s decision to add a citizenship question in the 2020 Decennial Census. Congressman Gonzalez has been public in his dissent on this issue.

“I am very happy to hear that the judiciary has reaffirmed what we always knew was true, namely that our Constitution requires a count of all people in a Census,” Congressman Gonzalez said. “That is the sole objective of this count and impacts resources spent in the 15th District of Texas, and across the country. Regardless of where you stand on the immigration debate, I do not understand why anyone would want to cheat themselves out of rightfully due resources. We do not ask for handouts, but we do demand our regions fair share. Every person counts in the United States, and this ruling affirms that.”
