WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued a statement following the passage of H.R. 4863, The United States Export Finance Agency Act of 2019 which reauthorizes and expands the Export-Import (EXIM) Bank, the United States’ export credit agency:

“The passage of this legislation will allow the EXIM Bank to continue financing sales of U.S. exports to international markets, creating and sustaining American jobs. In the 15th District of Texas alone, the Bank is responsible for $52 million dollars in lending to 36 diverse businesses,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “The EXIM Bank helps drive innovation and promote small business, support workers, and lift the American economy. I was proud to cast my vote in favor of this legislation and thank Chairwoman Maxine Waters for her leadership in guiding this critical bill across the finish line.”

H.R. 4863, The United States Export Finance Agency Act of 2019 will reauthorize the Export-Import Bank for 10 years and increase the Bank’s lending authority from $135 billion to $175 billion. The bill also changes the name of the Export-Import Bank to the United States Export Finance Agency. The legislation also creates new programs to help connect foreign buyers with U.S. exporters and strengthens the Agency’s support for small businesses. The bill also addresses concerns about unfair trade practices and our national security by prohibiting the Bank from financing sales to certain bad actors as determined under existing U.S. law and promotes a climate-conscious global economy by supporting renewable energy and technology exports.
