Congressman Gonzalez Encourages Hidalgo County Residents to Apply for U.S. Census Partnership Position

McAllen, Texas – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Census Bureau will be accepting applications for a Partnership Specialist in Hidalgo County, Texas, from July 23 to July 31. In order to be considered, applicants must be proficient in both English and Spanish and a current resident of Hidalgo County.

“Dedicated, hardworking, and tenacious individuals are essential to conducting an effective census,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “Hidalgo County resident are encouraged to apply for this position and join our efforts to make the 2020 Decennial Census as accurate as possible. For too long our communities have been undercounted and we need personnel who are committed to ensuring that we receive the federal resources and representation we deserve.” 

Interested applicants must be qualified U.S. citizens. Current or former Bureau employees are eligible to apply. The congressman encourages eligible, flexible self-starters who are interested in working with elected officials and community groups to apply.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Planning, developing, and coordinating partnership agreements to ensure activities at all levels are executed, resolved, and negotiated adequately;
  • Address questions, concerns, or issues related to current and potential partners and stakeholders;
  • Establish partnership agreements with federal, state, local, and tribal governments and local businesses or community groups to develop strategies to eliminate enumeration barriers in Hidalgo County;
  • Develop presentations, provide briefings, and promote the creation of partnerships with all levels of government, area businesses, and pertinent community groups;
  • Present information to Spanish speaking audiences and translate and develop targeted informational and promotional materials from Spanish to English and English to Spanish.
