WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD) has awarded $1,044,198 and $1,202,024 for Fiscal Year 2018 to Edinburg and Pharr, Texas, respectively. This funding comes in the form of Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) which provides communities with resources to expand access to affordable housing, create jobs, and retain business growth.

“Community Development Block Grants empower communities to address some of their most pressing housing, infrastructure, community development, and economic challenges,” Congressman Gonzalez said. “I look forward to working with city, state, and federal officials to continue building a brighter future for Central and South Texans from all walks of life.”

CDBG grants provide state and local governments with the opportunity to increase economic opportunities for otherwise low or moderate-income individuals and raise the standard of living.
