WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) is encouraging Hidalgo County homeowners affected by recent severe storms and flooding to apply for available disaster relief grants from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas). The bank is allocating $500,000, at a potential $10,000 per household, to assist South Texans with recovery and rebuilding efforts. These funds do not require repayment.
“This is Texas – lending a helping hand is how we take care of each other in the Lone Star State,” Congressman Gonzalez said. “I would like to thank the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas for sharing the spirit of giving and providing their fellow Texans with the resources necessary to return to their normal lives. I encourage those affected by natural disasters to apply for assistance, which does not have to be repaid.”
Under the Disaster Rebuilding Assistance Program:
Grants are available through FHLB Dallas member institutions for repair or construction costs not already funded by insurance or state or federal emergency assistance
Homes must be located within FHLB Dallas’ five-state District of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas, and must be in a FEMA-designated major disaster declaration area declaration area eligible for individual assistance
Homeowners must have 30 days of current ownership and must have had primary ownership of the home as of the date of the FEMA disaster declaration
This is a grant program and funds are not repaid
Grants are available on a first-come, first served basis
Grants are available through December 31, 2018, or until funding is exhausted. For more information on how Hidalgo County homeowners can apply for FHLB Dallas grants, please visit: https://www.fhlb.com/News/Pages/Federal-Home-Loan-Bank-of-Dallas-Offers-Disaster-Relief-Funds-Through-Members.aspx
