SANTA ROSA, Texas – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced $9,553,500 in federal funding for the City of Santa Rosa through the U.S. Department of Interior’s WaterSMART Drought Resiliency Project grants. This substantial investment will fortify the community’s water infrastructure and overall resiliency to drought conditions. This funding comes after Congressman Gonzalez called on U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland to support South Texas through these programs back in November 2023.

“This funding will go a long way in addressing the current water supply challenges in Santa Rosa, said Congressman Gonzalez. “Thanks to this investment, Santa Rosa can build critical infrastructure, including ground and elevated storage tanks, a raw water reservoir, and emergency interconnections with neighboring water suppliers. These improvements will provide water security to our residents and a vital buffer against future water supply emergencies.”

The City of Santa Rosa relies on a local irrigation district for its domestic water supply, facilitated through an irrigation canal adjacent to the City’s water treatment plant. However, the canal’s inconsistent flow volumes, particularly during drought periods, have posed significant challenges to water supply reliability. In October 2023, the canal ran dry, leading the city to declare a state of emergency and underscoring the urgent need for enhancements.
