WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced a $2,905,113 grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education to IDEA Weslaco Public School through their Teacher Incentive Fund program.
The grant will build and launch a talent management platform to increase the effectiveness, fairness, quality, and reliability of IDEA’s evaluation, promotion and compensation processes for teachers.
“We must continue to improve teacher development practices and ensure that our students are receiving a high-quality education,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “This grant will help with teacher development and retention. It will also have a direct and positive impact on student achievement. I am proud to support education initiatives that will improve practices and the quality of education for both students and teachers.”
The proposed talent management platform will help teachers get better faster, increasing their ability to enable student success in established target benchmarks on the STAAR/EOC or Similar Internal Assessments. The project will also focus on teacher retention to increase students’ access to effective educators in high-need schools.
