Texas Border Business
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced $10,406,542 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development for Border to Border Communications. The federal funding comes as a joint ReConnect loan and grant combination.
The Rural Development investment will provide Border to Border Communications with the opportunity to deploy a fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) network in rural Texas.
“Providing access to high-speed broadband and closing the digital divide is critical to ensure equal opportunities for South Texans,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “In the digital age, our businesses, schools, and communities depend on reliable high-speed broadband now more than ever. This federal funding will help thousands of people in South Texas connect to the internet and I will keep fighting to secure projects and funds to close the digital divide.”
The funded service areas include 5,153 households, 15 educational facilities, and 10 critical community facilities spread over 938 square miles.
