Commissioners Court welcomes future leaders from the county’s 4-H Program

Commissioners Court welcomed future leaders as County Extension Agent Andrea Valdez introduced the new 4-H Ambassadors and Officers.

“The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Hidalgo County 4-H program annually elects or selects young leaders to represent the county program in various ways,” said Valdez.

The 2019-2020 4-H Council includes President Emeri Drewry, 1st Vice President Jocelyn Boyle, 2nd Vice President Ashlyn Martinez, Secretary Lily Ford, Treasurer Brian Peña, Parliamentarian Davin Peña, Reporter Karina Palomo, County Delegate Cora Ford, and District Delegate Charylet Lee.

The 4-H Ambassador Program aims to project a clear and accurate image of the Texas and Hidalgo County 4-H & Youth Development Program. The program gives teens an opportunity to gain a better understanding of their community, practice public speaking skills, and learn communication strategies.

The Youth Ambassadors are Claire Lee, Derek De La Garza, Cooper Ford, Lily Ford, Rowdy Sandoval, Rowly Sandoval, Jocelyn Boyle, Ashlyn Martinez, Emeri Drewry, and Julianna Emerald Salinas.

“The Healthy Texas Youth Ambassadors are a group of carefully selected youth who represent the programs that focus on food, nutrition, health, and wellness,” said Valdez.  “They are trained in food safety, nutrition, and more.”

The Healthy Texas Youth Ambassadors are: Angela Cantu, Idana Cantu, Christopher Choi, Maysam Daghestani, Hamyli Gonzalez, Mayra Gutierrez, Alberto Lopez, Aislyn Morales, Emma Morales, Sarah Morales, Brian Peña, Joseph Peña, Catalina Ramirez, Mia Ramirez, Evelyn Rocha, and Madeline Guerra.

Commissioners Court congratulates the newly appointed ambassadors and officers and wishes them well this upcoming school year.
