McAllen, Texas – City of McAllen District 5 Commissioner Victor “Seby” Sebastian Haddad announced today that he will be seeking re-election for his seat on the City Commission. Haddad, who has served as the District 5 Commissioner for the past four years, is running on aplatform of continued investment in the City’s infrastructure and urban core, as well as a commitment to animal welfare and inclusionary andsmall business development.
“I am proud of the work that we have accomplished over the past four years,” Haddad said. “Even with an event like COVID, we have made significant investments in our City’s capacity to grow, with a record number of major drainage and infrastructure projects, community reinvestment, and a focus on quality of life and revitalization, all while retaining a highly conservative rainy day fund balance and providing our residents with the first tax rate decrease in over 5 years.”
Haddad also highlighted his efforts to revitalize the City’s urban core through the modification of the “Imagine Tomorrow” program, which has seen its budget double in the last two years due to increased demand, and the promotion of the “Refresh 50/50” program and similarprograms, which help local small businesses.
“We have also made major amenity and safety improvements to our urban parks, such as Crockett, which has promoted neighborhood usage and improved the quality of life for our residents,” said Haddad. “I am also proud of our efforts towards inclusionary development and our commitment to animal welfare.”
In addition to his work on the City Commission, Haddad sits on the Executive Board of the McAllen Economic Development Corp and ForeignTrade Zone, where the primary focus has been to attract large industry to the region. He also serves on a number of other boards and committees, including the Ordinance Review Committee, Joint School/City Committee, Charter Amendment Committee, Development Corporation, Convention Center Food & Beverage, IMAS Board, Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone #2A, Technology Committee, and serves as the President for Texas Municipal League Region 12.
Haddad also placed Term Limits on the agenda after making it a major campaign item, pressed for workshops and with the support of theCommission, got it in front of the voters, resulting in a 90% vote for the amendment to the City’s charter.
