Combes Texas is a small community north of Harlingen. It can easily be found through I-69 or Highway 107, both roads go right through the city. It’s a magnet location that visionary developers and city leaders are willing to put their time, energy, and money on the line to make it happen. They are set to build a multimillion-dollar development that will attract thousands of visitors.
Mark Hanna and Nils Wulff with Hanna Development are convinced that they have thought of a project with all the amenities that people need, want, and love.
The project is called Crosswind Landing, a 26-acre mixed-use development with a lake and a park with a walking trail surrounding the lake. The lake is a retention pond that belongs to Cameron County Drainage District #5. The city obtained permission to use the property around the lake.
The master plan calls for a large wellness center, 45 duplexes, a total of 90 apartments, a retail strip center, a hotel, and so much more. Read more in this issue.
McAllen has got a winner. The City of McAllen has hired Eduardo Mendoza as its new Director of Engineering. The Rio Grande Valley resident has over 20 years of experience in engineering, construction management, policy development, budgeting, fiscal management, and operational management, and serving recently as the Interim Director of Engineering for the City of McAllen. Before that, he led the department as the Deputy Director, where he managed and completed major projects, including the McAllen Performing Arts Center Construction; Anzalduas Northbound Canopy and Lane Expansion Design and Construction; the Hidalgo International Port of Entry Improvement Project; and the Fire Station #2 Design and Construction.
What a great organization. The McAllen Citizens League recently held its membership meeting after a COVID-19 hiatus in order to elect new officers and board members. The League has been serving its members and the public with membership luncheon meetings that offer programs covering community issues as well as informative sessions about education, healthcare, government, public safety, and many other topics.
