EDINBURG, TX – Palm Valley Animal Society (PVAS) is teaming up with NBC Universal Local and Telemundo 40 stations to find loving homes for pets in need through the Clear The Shelters pet adoption event. The event offers fee-waived adoptions for all available pets and runs from now through September 19, 2021. A $50 fully refundable deposit may be required if the pet is not spayed or neutered.

Since 2015, more than 250,000 pets of all types have been adopted through NBC and Telemundo Owned Stations’ “Clear the Shelters” nationwide pet adoption campaign.

“We have so many wonderful pets waiting for homes,” says Executive Director Donna Casamento. “We’re so excited to participate in this national adoption campaign and so grateful to our partners for their support.”

The campaign is taking place at the same time PVAS is facing a temporary intake freeze. The crisis comes as a result of the shelter meeting its maximum capacity for pets with just over 1,200 pets in its care as of August 27.

Clear The Shelters is a direct solution to the temporary intake freeze because finding adoptive homes for pets frees up space for new ones in need, and can potentially save lives. PVAS is asking the community for life-saving intervention by participating in the campaign.

The shelter is also in need of fosters for all types of pets. By fostering, families care for a shelter pet temporarily, which will free up space for other adoptable pets at the shelter. Families will be asked to foster an animal for a minimum of two weeks but are welcome to foster a pet longer if they would like. For more information on fostering pets, visit PVAS between 11-7 daily or sign up online at www.pvastx.org.

About Clear The SheltersClear The Shelters™ / Desocupar Los Albergues® is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign that is spearheaded by NBCUniversal Local, a division of NBCUniversal. Every year, NBCUniversal Local’s NBC and Telemundo owned stations, plus affiliated stations, partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to host Clear The Shelters events. NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters campaign was inspired by a 2014 North Texas pet adoption event hosted by NBC 5 / KXAS and Telemundo 39 / KXTX and dozens of area shelters that resulted in the most adopted pets in one day for North Texas.
