MCALLEN, TX, – Keeping the spirit of its biggest and most-anticipated event alive, the International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) announces they are going virtual. Brew-seum@Home, sponsored by Clark Chevrolet, Clark Knapp Honda, and L&F Distributors, in support of the IMAS and hosted by Tim Smith and Tony Forina, will be held virtually on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at 7:00 p.m.

Since the IMAS is not able to welcome the over 1,600 people who attended the event at the museum last year, the best parts of this festival are coming straight to the comfort of your living room. Brew-seum@Home will continue the tradition of celebrating craft beer and spotlighting local cuisine all in support of the education and exhibition programs at IMAS. In the virtual experience, ticket holders will be invited to pick up their Brew-seum@Home beer kit ahead of time from restaurant partners Sony and Albert Rego and then tune in for a live streamed program Saturday evening.

Brew-seum@Home is a major fundraiser for the IMAS, and will include special guests, music and entertainment, and a few surprises for the audience including guest brewers and the specially curated beer kit to party along and participate in the event. The Empty Barrels: Food & Fund Drive project in partnership with the Food Bank of the RGV will also tie into the show with the final silent auction of each of the six artistic barrels. Funds raised from Brew-seum@Home will go directly toward the museum’s work serving our community even now as it does so virtually.

“While the tradition has continued now for 12 years, the International Museum of Art & Science is pivoting the format this year to do our part in the effort to shelter at home,” says Ann Fortescue, President and Executive Director of IMAS. “So, this year, we are planning a great party during which we can all enjoy Brew-seum at home!”

Lizard Alebrijes, ca. 1990-1994, Gerardo Ramirez, Arrazola Xoxo Oaxaca, Mexico, and agate from IMAS permanent collection featured virtually by IMAS along with educational content.

Even though the IMAS is temporarily closed to the public the staff has not skipped a beat in continuing to find ways to fulfill its mission of promoting art, science and culture. With over 54% of its regular visitors being children under the age of 17, the IMAS serves tens of thousands of youth in the community as an informal learning environment. It is a place for the entire community to think, create, and explore!

Brew-seum@Home is a party with a purpose – all the funds raised support the art and science education exhibits and programs at the museum, reaching over 30,000 children from low-income school districts annually. The IMAS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, provides a unique informal learning environment for these children from schools around the Rio Grande Valley, even virtually through these unprecedented times. This event is supported by Clark Chevrolet, Clark Knapp Honda and L&F Distributors.

Everyone in the community has a part to play during these times, and for the IMAS that role is as a source of inspiration. The IMAS has opened its “virtual doors” and is creating fun and educational content, virtual exhibits and continued care of its Animal Ambassadors. Education Director, Claudia Martinez goes live on Tuesday mornings with Toddler Tuesday storytime and presents weekly Workshop Wednesdays. The IMAS is featuring rocks and minerals from the permanent collection through Mineral Mondays and delving through our collections on Folk Art Fridays. IMAS Artists are all around us and have been showing their work with #IMASartist all over social media.
