City Of San Juan Proclaims ‘Lisa Cantu Day’ in Honor Of Longtime PSJA ISD Educator

SAN JUAN, Texas – The City of San Juan signed a Proclamation on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at PSJA Early College High School in honor of longtime Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) Educator and Coach Norma “Lisa Cantu” for her dedication and years of service.

Cantu graduated in 1986 from PSJA High School in San Juan, Texas. During her tenure at PSJA High School, she was actively involved in cheerleading and was named Homecoming Queen. 

In the fall of 1992, Cantu graduated from The University of Texas Pan-American with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and began her teaching career at Lyndon B. Johnson Middle School in Pharr.

Throughout her career, she taught history and science at San Juan Middle School before moving to PSJA High School in 2008, where she has taught various grade levels and subjects.

In addition to teaching, Cantu has also been a senior class sponsor, cheerleading head coach, and powerlifting head coach, mentoring many State Qualifiers, hundreds of Bear Cheerleaders, and even coaching a Powerlifting State Champion.
