The Pharr City Commission has proclaimed October 7, 2024, as “World Teacher’s Day,” recognizing the vital role teachers play in shaping the city’s future through high-quality education.
The proclamation emphasizes that teacher quality is a key factor in student success, highlighting the dedication, resilience, and innovation that educators bring to their profession and communities. The community is encouraged to show support for teachers by displaying light blue ribbons outside homes and businesses during the week of October 5. This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to celebrating and supporting its educators for their essential contributions to students’ growth and success.
Ana González, Executive Director of Teach For America Rio Grande Valley, and members of her team accepted the proclamation. “We are proud to highlight the amazing work teachers do in our community every day to educate our students and transform lives,” said Gonzalez. “Thank you to the City of Pharr for recognizing this important work and always supporting our teachers,” she added.
