Pharr, Texas – Pharr city officials will host a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting ceremony in celebration of renovations to the Jose “Pepe” Salinas Recreation Center. The event will take place on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at 11:30 am at the Jose “Pepe” Salinas Recreation Center (1011 W. Kelly Avenue.) in Pharr.
“I am proud to announce that renovations at the Jose “Pepe” Salinas Recreation Center are complete,” said Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. ” I am especially excited to join our city leaders, staff, community, and the Salinas family as we celebrate the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the newly modernized facility this week,” he added. “This wonderful building will continue to serve our community and Pharr families for future generations,” continued Hernandez.Â
The Civic Center, which was opened in 1970, has been a staple in Pharr for over 50 years. During its long history, the center has served the Pharr community in various capacities (recreation center, rental facility, polling site)—always providing a space for families and the community to gather together.
Named after former Pharr City Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Salinas who served as Commissioner Place 2 from 1986 to 1988 and 1992 to 1996, this facility will proudly continue to serve the Pharr community. The Salinas family is expected to join city leaders in celebrating the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting.
