PHARR – The City of Pharr Mayor Dr. Ambrosio Hernandez proclaimed March 5-9 as National School Breakfast Week during a special kick-off event held at Carmen Anaya Elementary in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo School District.
National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) is an annual week-long celebration of the School Breakfast Program. During the week, schools celebrate with decorations, special menus and events aimed at increasing school participation.
According to PSJA Child Nutrition Chef Rodrigo Puente, in addition to launching NSBW and hosting events at various schools throughout the week, the district also celebrated National Read Across America Day for Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2.
As part of the joint festivities, the more than 500 students at Anaya Elementary enjoyed a nutritious Dr. Seuss-themed breakfast consisting of a peach parfait, apples and graham crackers.
“We’re excited to launch this celebration today, and happy the Mayor joined us,” said Puente. “We look forward to visiting more campuses.”
