Peñitas, Texas – At a regular meeting held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, the City of Peñitas City Council approved an ordinance (#2020-03) regulating the weight load of vehicles traveling on city streets and public highways.
The purpose of this ordinance is to prevent heavy vehicles from disturbing communities and excessively damaging the city’s streets. The ordinance amends Ordinance 2018-07 by designating approved allowable truck routes and streets upon which heavy vehicles are permitted. The approved truck route map can be found below and on the city’s website (www.cityofpenitas.com) and social media site (www.facebook.com/cityofpenitas).
The amended ordinance also allows for the creation of a truck registry. Peñitas residents may register heavy vehicles that will be parked within residential roads with the City Code Enforcer or authorized designee prior to being located on-site within the Peñitas city limits. This registry of trucks includes any heavy vehicles, oil field equipment, or other weighted items having a combined gross weight of more than 26,000 pounds or more than 10,000 pounds. For more information, contact the city at 956-581-3345.
Any person, firm, or corporation violating this ordinance shall upon conviction be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined a sum of not more than $500 for each day the ordinance is violated.
