Palmview, Texas â€“ The City of Palmview was recently notified by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) that it has been awarded a $300,000 Outdoor Recreational Grant for the Palmview Nature Park. Located near Abram Rd and Business 83 in the southwestern part of the city, the proposed conceptual site plan for the park includes a 2-acre conservation area, picnic areas, exercise areas, play structures, and walking trails.

“We are thankful to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission for this funding which will allow us to develop the Palmview Nature Park,” said Mayor Ricardo Villarreal. “This grant will allow us to continue to expand greenspace in our city, while helping to enhance the quality of life for our residents,” added Villarreal. “We are thrilled to continue to expand parks and recreational areas for the benefit of our Palmview families and community,” he continued.

According to the commission’s press release, grants are allocated to local government entities by the commission based on appropriated state and federal funding dedicated for the acquisition and/or development of public recreation areas and facilities in Texas on a 50/50 reimbursement match basis.

“Outdoor recreational spaces are a haven and we look forward to finishing this park in the near future so that our families can enjoy not only a beautiful nature trail, but many other new park amenities,” stated Mayor Pro-Tem Linda Sarabia.

Other proposed park amenities include a playground, trails and facilities, exercise equipment, dedicated open space, native landscaping, basketball court, picnic facilities, and shade structures.

The commission, which administers the local park grants program for the state of Texas, awarded $15 million in competitive local park grants to help fund 30 projects throughout the state.
