Mission, TX- If citizens are looking to clear up a municipal warrant or an outstanding ticket, the City of Mission is ready to help them out.
The Mission Municipal Court will host a special amnesty program beginning Friday, Feb. 1 and running throughout the entire month. Fines must be paid in full and failure to appear and warrant fees will be waived.
“Amnesty is a great benefit to the public because it allows them an opportunity to come into the court to take care of their matter without fear of being arrested and at the same time save money,” Municipal Court Judge Jonathan Wehrmeister said.
Payments can be made in person Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and on Saturday 8-11:45 a.m. For those who cannot pay their ticket in full, the court is still encouraging residents to go by, without fear of being arrested, and make alternate payment arrangements.
“Amnesty is good for both parties involved, those that give and those that receive,” Mayor Armando O’caña said. “It is a humble, admirable opportunity for our citizens to get their quality of life back to normal with a touch of mercy and no penalties.”
Amnesty programs have been implemented several times in Mission before. The court is aiming to help citizens save money while they resolve their cases.
