McAllen Mayor and City Officials, along with partner organizations, hosted a two-day Trade Mission from Tampico, Tamaulipas this week, aimed at fostering international expansion and entrepreneurial development.

Tampico officials and business leaders discussed the regional landscape and expansion opportunities. A seminaron the first day allowed entrepreneurs to connect with experts to discuss business formation and registration, market trends, and resources and programs available for international companies considering expansion.
On day two, the group toured retail spaces and heard the success story of “MOMOLE,” a Mexican company which recently expanded its operations to McAllen.
Mayor Javier Villalobos and City Manager Isaac J. Tawil emphasized the benefits of investing in McAllen, which includes quality of life, business-friendly environment, streamlined development processes, safety, and economic stability.

“McAllen’s soft-landing program is designed to empower foreign business owners by simplifying processes and providing essential information for a smooth entry into the local business environment. This program connects prospects with a strong network of industry experts, laying the foundation for success in our vibrant community,” stated Mayor Villalobos.
On November 14, 2024, Tampico and McAllen signed a Friendship City Agreement, solidifying their long history of collaboration, particularly in environmental stewardship initiatives, programs to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors, and economic development. The Friendship City Agreement is recognized as a first step in establishing a Sister City partnership, which facilitates the development of initiatives, benefiting both communities.
“Our collaboration with Tampico, marks the beginning of a lasting partnership and the outcomes have been remarkable. Tampico has actively promoted its destination at McAllen’s signature events and has been creating opportunities for their business community within our city. Trade missions like these highlight Tampico Mayor Monica Villarreal’s commitment to binational prosperity,” said City Manager Isaac J. Tawil.
