In an effort to improve aesthetics and the visitor experience in downtown McAllen, City of McAllen crews will be removing gum from sidewalks starting next week on  Monday, July 19, 2021.

Crews will be utilizing a combination of power washing equipment and gum removal steamer to safely remove the gum from the sidewalks.  Work will be done from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to avoid any disruption to the merchants downtown.

“We hope these efforts, among others, will help beautify downtown, and help drive business here.  We also encourage visitors to assist the City of McAllen in ensuring it stays clean for all to enjoy,” says Mario Delgado, Director of Transit and Downtown Services.

The City of McAllen also encourages visitors to dispose of garbage, including gum, in trash receptacles to ensure McAllen has a clean and good-looking downtown.
