WHERE: Auburn/Wisconsin along north Main St. (north of Trenton Avenue)
WHY: The newly constructed extension of the Auburn/Wisconsin roadway will serve as a principal arterial connection between North Main Street with North 10th Street, enhancing east/west traffic mobility for the north quadrant of McAllen. Additionally, the roadway extension provides regional connectivity from 23rd Street to I-69C (U.S. Hwy 281). Moreover, this roadway facilitates traffic to access the commercial areas in north McAllen more easily.
The new Auburn/Wisconsin extension is a five-lane curb and gutter thoroughfare; two lanes in each direction with a continuous left turn lane and sidewalks on both sides. This segment of the project was funded under the 2013 Roadway Bond Program at a cost of $290,000. Construction was performed by O.G. Construction Company, LLC from Edinburg Texas. Construction plans and specifications were assembled by Melden and Hunt Inc. form Edinburg Texas.
“Enhancing mobility in any sector of our community is key to not only the economic growth and development of the city, but also promoting the sustained safety of access for all residents,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E. “Each traffic construction project the City of McAllen undertakes for our community means that our residents are traveling the streets of McAllen and getting to work, home, school or other leisure activities safely and more efficiently.”
