Austin Stevenson has been named the new City Attorney for the City of McAllen. Currently serving as Interim City Attorney, he has served in this role since July 2024 when former City Attorney Isaac J. Tawil was named McAllen City Manager. Stevenson has worked for the City of McAllen’s legal team for more than 10 years, advising multiple departments.

His extensive experience with the City’s legal matters, his leadership as Interim City Attorney, and his deep commitment to public service make him the ideal candidate for this important position. Austin’s work has been invaluable in navigating complex legal issues for McAllen, and we look forward to his continued leadership in advancing the City’s legal and operational goals,” said McAllen City Manager Isaac J. Tawil.
Stevenson’s municipal law practice encompasses all legal matters in which the City may have an interest, including state and federal civil litigation, land use, zoning, employment, open records, economic development, public utilities, procurement, as well as providing guidance for the City of McAllen municipal cable channel. As McAllen City Attorney Stevenson will defend the City against all legal claims, provide general counsel services to City management and department directors, along with assisting the City in negotiating and drafting collective bargaining agreements for the McAllen Fire Department and McAllen Police Department.
Mr. Stevenson holds a BA in Spanish and BBA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. He previously served as the Texas Young Lawyers Association District 13 Director, Chairman of Leadership McAllen, and on the Hidalgo County Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors.
