For the past week, the City of McAllen has partnered with McAllen. I.S.D. Dept. of Food Services to help promote the Census and the importance of participating in the decennial initiative.
The City of McAllen Census team identified food distribution locations within McAllen’s Census low response tracts. For the past week, McAllen I.S.D. students picking up their lunch packets had a brightly colored sticker reminding them that the lunch was possible because of the Census and to participate today! Census and City of McAllen staff and the McAllen P.D. Community Relations team were on site to assist anyone with filling out the Census, while collecting other goodies, as well.
“This is such a great way to show our community how important the Census is, by telling them that the very lunch they are picking up is possible because of numbers reported in the Census,” said McAllen Mayor Jim Darling. “Participating in the Census is simply that important.”
