City of McAllen Mayor Signs Local Disaster Declaration

On Tuesday, March 17, 2020, McAllen Mayor Jim Darling signed a Declaration of Local Disaster in relation to COVID-19 (Coronavirus). 

Following similar steps taken through Emergency and Disaster Declarations by the United States President, the Governor of Texas, and the Hidalgo County Judge, Mayor Darling’s Declaration takes effect immediately and authorizes Mayor Darling and the City of McAllen to take steps needed to protect public health and welfare as laid out under Texas law during declared disasters.

Additionally, the McAllen City Commission has been called into an Emergency Meeting tonight at 4:00 p.m. at McAllen City Hall, 1300 W. Houston Avenue, to discuss COVID-19.
