The McAllen Police Department’s recent release of the 2024 National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) report reveals McAllen’s crime rate has once again declined, marking a 37-year crime low for McAllen. In fact, McAllen’s multi-year downward trend in crime continue the city’s legacy of public safety excellence as the safest among major cities in Texas.
Mayor Javier Villalobos praised the collective efforts of McAllen residents, city officials, and law enforcement, emphasizing their role in the city’s consistent achievements in public safety.
“McAllen’s 37-year crime low is a testament to the dedication and partnership between our residents, city leadership, and the McAllen Police Department. Together, we have built a community where public safety is not just a priority but a shared responsibility,” said Villalobos. “I especially want to thank the men and women of the McAllen Police Department for their tireless service who work to keep our community safe from those who want to do us harm. We remain committed to continue making McAllen a safe and thriving place for everyone,” he added.

The city recorded its 17th annual crime reduction in the last 20 years. |
2024 saw the lowest crime incidence in McAllen in 37 years, with numbers lower than in 1985. |
Since 1995, McAllen has reduced its crime rate by an extraordinary 76.6%, with 2024’s crime incidence at just 23.4% of the reported crime rate in 1995. |
“Our community, in part, is a construct of the residents of McAllen, City of McAllen elected officials and administration, and of course, the men and women of the McAllen Police Department,” said McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez. “They strive to keep McAllen thriving by preventing crime, promoting public safety, and participating in the investigation of crime when it does occur. Their collective efforts are formidable, preeminent, and unmatched, and I salute them for all that they do so that our community is safe for all who live, work, and visit McAllen,” Rodriguez stated.
