City of McAllen Hires New Finance Director

Rio Grande Valley native has decade-plus years’ experience in municipal finance

The City of McAllen has hired David R. Vasquez as its new Director of Finance. The Rio Grande Valley native has 13 years of experience in municipal work, serving most recently as the Finance Director for the City of Donna. Vasquez has a broad range of expertise in finance, including both serving as a senior finance analyst for Valley Baptist Health System and an accounting supervisor for Amigos del Valle, Inc. 

“The City of McAllen is excited to welcome David as our new Director of Finance as his extensive background in municipal finance, combined with his experience in both the public and private sectors, will make him a tremendous asset to the City of McAllen,” said McAllen City Manager Isaac J. Tawil.  “We are confident that his leadership and expertise will guide our financial strategies and ensure that we continue to make sound, fiscally responsible decisions for our growing city.”

While at the City of Donna, supervised the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the operating and capital budgets, as well as administered the city’s investment policy.  Vasquez spearheaded the statistical analysis for Valley Baptist Health System administration, to assure appropriate utilization of resources. Aside from supervising the accounting staff and overseeing the payroll cycle, he prepared the monthly financial reports during his tenure at Amigos del Valle.

After earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas-Pan American, Vasquez later earned a Master of Business Administration from UTPA, as well.

“I am honored to join the City of McAllen and bring my experience in finance to this dynamic community,” said Vasquez. “As a Rio Grande Valley native, it’s a privilege to serve in a leadership role in such a vibrant and forward-thinking city. I look forward to working with the team to ensure McAllen’s financial health and to support the continued growth and prosperity of our city.”
