Earlier this afternoon, the City of McAllen Fire Department responded to an emergency call for a swarm of bees attacking. Six people in total were stung, including one McAllen firefighter, while four of those were transported to the hospital, two in more critical condition than the others.
The bees were located in a residence in the area and were exterminated by the McAllen Fire Department and McAllen Animal Control. McAllen Police Department also responded to the scene to help control traffic and people in the area.
The McAllen Fire Department is still urging residents and others stay indoors and to avoid the area of Cedar Avenue between 20th and 21st St., as there may still bees in the area that may still be aggressive.
It is undetermined if the bees were Africanized or not.
Please call 9-1-1 for any emergency situation.
