Former Mayor wins special election runoff, incumbents tops in others
McALLEN – Former Mayor Richard Cortez beat Debbie Crane Aliseda 58 percent to 42 percent Saturday in a special election run-off to represent District 1 on the McAllen City Commission. That race highlighted three commission seats that were up for grabs in the City.
In the other two city commission races, District 6 incumbent Veronica Vela Whitacre outdistanced challenger Eduardo De La Rosa 63 percent to 37 percent and District 5 incumbent John Ingram turned back contender Eli Olivarez 66 percent to 34 percent.
Results are unofficial until they are canvassed on Wednesday May 20, 2015. Swearing in is scheduled for Tuesday May 26.
