Laredo, Texas — On Tuesday, August 17, 2021, Mayor Pete Saenz attended the North American Development Bank’s Border Environmental Forum XXV in San Antonio, Texas. This forum brings local and state officials, private sector developers, large commercial users, and others to learn and discuss topics such as binational relationships between the U.S. and Mexico, development of projects that help the environment, technological improvements, and financing opportunities. Mayor Saenz was pleased to meet the forum’s keynote speaker and Ambassador of Mexico to the U.S., Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, who was recently appointed by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
During their discussion, Mayor Saenz discussed Port Laredo’s achievements including being the number 1 inland port along the U.S.-Mexico border and the nation’s third busiest port among more than 450 airports, seaports, and border crossings. Based on this discussion, Ambassador Moctezuma has expressed interest in continuing enhancing a relationship with the City of Laredo. Ambassador Moctezuma has been invited by Mayor Saenz to visit Laredo, Texas in the near future.
