Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo Council Member for District 6, Dr. Marte Martinez, celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony to present a new Fitness Center at North Central Park on Monday, October 25, 2021. Together with the Parks & Recreation Department, Council Member Dr. Martinez was proud to see this project come to fruition. After a town hall meeting, Dr. Marte learned that many residents in the area of this district were interested in this type of facility.
Inside the aquatics area at North Central Park, the new Fitness Center consists of two levels with approximately 1,000 square feet of space and more than 30 pieces of workout equipment. The first level has strength training equipment, including a state-of-the-art Echelon Reflect Touch Smart Fitness Mirror. The fitness mirror has Live and on-demand studio fitness classes like HIIT, Yoga, Core, Pilates, Kickboxing, and more. This area also includes 2 Functional Strength training machines, a rack with weighted balls and bands, and a dumbbell rack. The second floor of the North Central Park Fitness Center offers the opportunity to members to do cardiovascular exercise on spinning bikes, a treadmill, elliptical, Jacobs Ladder, and a Xebex rower.
To use this facility, the community can become a member, just like at the other recreation centers. A 3-month membership is only $15 and a year-long membership costs $50. This membership allows all members to use any recreation center in the community. For the moment being, Juan J. Gomez, Parks & Recreation Director, explained that all recreation center facilities are open for members 62 years old and over. Beginning on November 15, 2021, all recreation centers will resume operations to the public in general.
The North Central Fitness Center’s investment was approximately $110,000 from District 6 discretionary funds.
