Edinburg, TEXAS – The UTRGV Office of Professional Education & Workforce Development will facilitate a series of workshops for managers and directors from all departments at the City of Edinburg, starting this month.
The workshops are scheduled once a month for the next six months and are custom designed to train municipal staff leaders to become highly efficient in their leadership roles.
The sessions also are part of the City of Edinburg’s commitment to serve through a new Strategic Framework called PRISM, which includes synergy creation and cross training.
Topics were hand-picked by city leadership and include Organization Leadership, Managing Multi-generational Workforce, Resolving Conflict with your Team, and Project Management.
Edinburg City Manager Juan Guerra said City leadership is excited to be collaborating with UTRGV for these trainings.
“I truly believe that without a good team, we cannot be effective in implementing the policies of the mayor and City Council. In order to have a good team, I need to give them the tools to do their jobs correctly, and one of the many tools they need is training.
“UTRGV’s education programs are progressive, and the courses are well-suited to help Edinburg employees continue to succeed in providing great services,” Guerra said.
Jayshree Bhat, UTRGV’s assistant vice president for Professional Education and Workforce Development, said the university is looking forward to collaborating with the City of Edinburg.
“We can help provide targeted professional development program with the help of our world-class faculty, and practitioners who are highly responsive to these sorts of training needs in the community,” she said.
