EDINBURG, Texas – The City of Edinburg is proud to announce that this year’s community altar at the annual Los Muertos Bailan Day of the Dead Celebration will be dedicated to the late Chad Dempsey, the beloved Band Director of Edinburg North High School. The tribute will honor his legacy and celebrate the lasting impact he made on students, staff, and the broader community.

Chad Dempsey was known for his inspirational spirit. He faced adversity with strength and resilience, embodying unwavering positivity and kindness. His compassion and optimism were reflected in the values he instilled in his students and colleagues, reminding everyone of the importance of uplifting others.

The community altar, a centerpiece of Los Muertos Bailan, will offer a heartfelt reflection of Chad’s life and showcase the deep love and respect the community holds for him. The City invites the public to participate in this special tribute, celebrating Dempsey’s life and enduring contributions.

Los Muertos Bailan will take place on October 26, 2024, at the McIntyre Promenade between the Museum of South Texas (MOST) History and Edinburg City Hall, with the community altar as a focal point. The procession to the altar will start at 7 p.m. at MOST, proceeding west on McIntyre St. to the altar located on the east side of Edinburg City Hall. Together, the community will honor Dempsey’s memory while celebrating the kindness, resilience, and compassion that defined his life.

In 2023, Dempsey was one of the honorees of the Hometown of Heroes Award, recognizing individuals who have made extraordinary public service contributions. His dedication to his students, positivity, and leadership in difficult times embodied the essence of the award, celebrating those who uplift and inspire others through selfless actions and achievements. By dedicating this year’s community altar to him, the City of Edinburg continues to honor his legacy and the profound impact he had on the community.
