Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. helped kick off the city’s successful participation in the program with Edinburg’s first “Walk with the Mayor” event at the beginning of September. The MWTM initiative allowed the city to join mayors from across the country to do their part in improving heart health and reducing risk factors among their residents by encouraging them to take a few minutes every day to run, walk, bike, and more.

Though the campaign has come to an end, the City of Edinburg continues to push for a healthier and happier community through Active Edinburg, new green spaces and walking trails, and recreation facilities like the newly-opened El Tule Jose Nieto and Consuelo Alfaro Robledo Recreation Center.
