EDINBURG, Texas – The City of Edinburg, in partnership with DHR Health, South Texas Health Systems, Hidalgo County Health, Edinburg Economic Development Corporation and UTRGV Health, invites the community to a Prostate Cancer Wellness Event on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Edinburg Activities, Culture & Events (ACE) Center, located at 315 W. McIntyre Street.

This free event will provide PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) testing at no cost to attendees, while supplies last, along with additional wellness checks, including blood pressure screenings. A special highlight will be a panel presentation featuring Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. and a leading urologist. The presentation will offer valuable insight into prostate health, the importance of early detection, and the resources available to those affected by the disease.
The event carries special meaning for the community as it is being held in honor of Mayor Garza, who in January announced his diagnosis with prostate cancer and his decision not to seek re-election to focus on his health. Mayor Garza has been a strong advocate for open discussions about men’s health and the life-saving importance of regular screenings.
“This is about encouraging men in our community to take charge of their health,” Mayor Garza said. “Early detection saves lives, and I hope this event inspires more men to get screened.”
The City strongly urges all men—particularly those over the age of 40 or with a family history of prostate cancer—to take advantage of this free opportunity to get tested.
