EDINBURG, Texas – Edinburg Fire Department Deputy Chief Ubaldo Perez has been appointed as the Interim Fire Chief following the untimely passing of Fire Chief Shawn M. Snider. Deputy Chief Perez, a dedicated veteran of the department, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to his new role.
He joined the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department in May of 1990 and rose through the ranks of firefighter, lieutenant, captain, and volunteer assistant chief. He was promoted to Deputy Chief in charge of training on January 22, 2001. Chief Perez, who has been an integral part of the Edinburg Fire Department for over three decades, assumes the responsibilities of Interim Fire Chief effective immediately.
“It is with great honor and humility that I accept this appointment,” Chief Perez said. “I am committed to upholding the legacy of Chief Snider and leading the Edinburg Fire Department with the utmost professionalism, dedication, and compassion.”
As Interim Fire Chief, Chief Perez will oversee the daily operations of the fire department, working closely with his team to maintain the highest standards of emergency response, fire prevention, and community education. Interim Chief Perez will also serve as the city’s Emergency Management Coordinator.
