BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The City of Brownsville is on its way to constructing a new state-of-the-art Public Safety Complex, which will house the Brownsville Police Department, Fire/Ambulance Administration, Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and Information Technology/Cybersecurity offices. The Mayor and City Commissioners recently approved an approximate $6M agreement between the City and Megamorphosis, Inc., the selected architectural firm for the project.
Megamorphosis, Inc. has extensive experience in architectural projects in the Rio Grande Valley, and has previously worked on public safety projects, including the Cameron County 911 Center and the Harlingen Emergency Operations Center. The firm recently received the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) Lower Rio Grande Valley 2024 Zebby Award, Architecture Firm of the Year.
The City Commission approved the Task Order for term contract ASC-41-0719 Architectural Services Contract. Under this agreement, Megamorphosis will provide architectural services while its sub-consultants will provide structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services at the facility. These services have an estimated cost of
$4,225,000, as budgeted. Additionally, the firm will provide other services, including surveying, public safety consulting, windstorm, and other related services at an approximate cost of $1,740,860, also budgeted for the project.
“This project represents our unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of our community,” said John Cowen, Jr., Brownsville City Mayor. “The new Public Safety Complex will modernize our capabilities and position Brownsville as a regional leader in public safety and emergency response.”
The center is designed to address the increasing needs of the growing Brownsville community by expanding public safety, emergency management, disaster preparedness,
cybersecurity, and continuity of operations. It will also provide critical training and administrative spaces, ensuring our first responders are equipped to protect the safety and welfare of Brownsville residents.
“Megamorphosis, in their presentation to the City demonstrated excellence in delivering innovative and effective public safety facilities,” said Helen Ramirez, ICMA-CM, AICP, Brownsville City Manager. “We are confident they will bring that same expertise to this transformative project for Brownsville.
